Obi Toppin has only been a Knick, officially, for a little more than 24 hours.
But it looks like his heart’s been with the team for much longer than that.
Toppin, a Brooklyn native who played at Ossining High School in Westchester, was selected by the Knicks with the eighth overall pick in the 2020 draft on Wednesday night, giving the Knicks an electric young forward with a penchant for playing above the rim.
On Thursday, he shared a photo on his Instagram story of a much younger version of himself, donning what looks to be a Latrell Sprewell Knicks jersey.
“It was meant to be!!!,” Toppin captioned the photo.
The 22-year-old has already expressed how excited he is to suit up professionally for his hometown team.
“I’m from New York, that’s why it’s important,” Toppin said during the draft broadcast when asked about going to the Knicks. “Me repping my city, it’s amazing. A lot of people pray to be in this position. I’m not going to take it for granted.”
